Earthero: What is your usual practice when doing grocery shopping?
Old lady: First of all it depends on what I’m buying, where I’m coming from and where I’m going afterwards. But I always bring my own shopping bags, and occasionally a box for buying tofu. Store owners usually encourage customers to use less disposable plastic bags. Though I would reuse them as rubbish bags at home.
Earthero: Do you remember what it was like before plastic bags became available?
Old lady: People just used dried weed in the early days, then we switched to newspaper, which wasn’t hygienic. So they were replaced by plastic bags instead. If you live nearby and happen to be going back home afterwards, dried weed is not a bad choice.
